Sympathetic Pathway To Head

A

Preganglionic sympathetic neurons traveling to the head arise in the upper thoracic levels of the spinal cord and ascend the sympathetic chain to the superior cervical ganglion. A synapse occurs in the superior cervical ganglion, and postganglionic neurons form plexuses on the internal and external carotid arteries in the head. The neurons in the plexus generally travel to their destination by following arterial branches, although some fibers do join cranial nerves to reach their target
