(I) Sensory: Smell

(II) Sensory: vision
Occulomotor
(III) Motor: Raise eyelids, extraoccular mov’ts.
Parasympathetic: Pupil constriction, changes lens shape
Trochlear
(IV) Motor: Downward, inward eye mov’t
Trigeminal
(V) Motor: Jaw mov’ts
Sensory: Cornea, iris, lacrima glands, conjuctiva, eyelids, forehead, nose, nose/mouth mucosa, teeth, tongue, ear, facial skin
Abducens
(VI) Motor: lateral eye mov’t
Facial
(VII) Motor: Facial expression muscles (save jaw), close eyelids, some speech
Sensory: taste (anterior 2/3 tongue), pharynx
Parasympathetic: tear and saliva excretion
Acoustic
(VIII) Sensory: Hearing, equilibrium.
Glossopharyngeal
(IX) Motor: voluntary muscles of swallowing and phonation.
Sensory: Nasopharynx, gag, taste (post. 1/3 of tongue).
Parasympathetic: carotid reflex, salivary secretion.
Vagus
(X) Sensory: Behind ear, portion of external canal.
Parasympathetic: Digestive enzymes, carotid reflex, peristalsis, action of heart, lungs, and GI tract
Spinal accessory
(XI) Motor: turn head, shrug, some phonation
Hypoglossal
(XII) Motor: Tongue mov’t for speech and swallowing
