Cranial Nerve Flashcards
Neural tube
Classification of nuclei
Divided by sulcus terminalis into two part
1) alar - sensory - Posterior —⟩ lateral
2) Basal - motor - Anterior —⟩ medial
Classification > Efferent - general somatic efferent - general visceral efferent - special visceral efferent
> Afferent
- general somatic efferent
- special somatic efferent
- general visceral efferent
- general somatic efferent
Efferent
1) general somatic - motor supply to somatic origin
- head and neck muscles derived from somites
- extraoricular muscle - 3,4,6
- tongue muscle - 12
- diaphragm - phrenic nerve
> Nucleus present in GSE - 3,4,6,12
Special visceral efferent - motor supply to pharyngeal arch
- mandibular 5th nerve
- glossopharyngeal
- Fascial
- superior and recurrent laryngeal - 10 th nerve
GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL AND LARYNGEAL NERVE HAS NUCLEUS AMBIGUOUS
General visceral efferent - parasympathetic column
- INFERIOR SALIVATORY —⟩ 9 th nerve —⟩ nucleus otic —⟩ parotid ganglion
- SUPERIOR SALIVATORY —⟩ 7th Nerve —⟩ submandibular ganglion —⟩ submandibular and sublingual
- LACRIMATORY NUCLEUS ( caudal part of superior SALIVATORY nucleus) —⟩ 7th Nerve —⟩ lacrimal, nasal, palatal
- edinger westphal nucleus —⟩ 3rd nerve —⟩ ciliary ganglion —⟩ Spincter pupillae
- Dorsal nucleus of vagus - lung, heart, foregut, midgut
Afferent
1) SVA and GVA - common nucleus - nucleus tractus solitarius
2) SVA - taste sensation - 7th, 9th, 10
3) GSA - nucleus of trigeminal - mesencephalic, chief sensory (pons), spinal (medulla and C1, C2)
- nerve = 5,7,9,10
4) SSA - vestibular, cochlear.
