What to check before?

A
  • Check CAT status
  • Check lifting strap expiry
  • Check qualifications and certifications of crane operator (Class 1. all crane ops/ Class 2: all less launching of MDV, EMDS, TSAS/ Class 3: only harbour) Deck Officer (COC) Deck Supervisor (ISC) Tech operator (BSC1, COC[crane])
  • Check safety weight limit is adhered to (max load at 9.6m: 900kg, without extension: 2.7 tonnes)

What to ensure before?

A
  • Ensure proper PPE: safety helmet, life jacket, long 4, safety boots, seaman gloves
  • Ensure no personnel standing under load
  • Ensure deck officer and deck sup is present with relevant cert

What to do before?

A
  • Conduct pre-ops brief and check 4
  • Prepare RAMS read up OCP
  • Fly interco RY (Seaward side)
  • Close hangar hatch
  • Stow Harbour Ensign and remove flag pole
  • Inform IOC
  • Pipe “The Q deck is out of bound. Crane operation in progress.”
  • Tie rope at stbd and port waist to prevent entry
  • Let go aft outboard rope and stow it by its bollard

What to do during?

A
  • Reminder Pipe every 15 mins
  • Emergency stop button on combi drive and control cabinet
  • Monitor CAT status and ensure safety of personnel

  • Pipe “The restriction to Q deck is now lifted. Crane operation completed.”
  • Inform IOC
