Urinary catheter teaching

Make sure you are not pulling or tugging on it
When someone is cleaning it make sure they have gloves on
Daily cleaning
Make sure catheter bag hangs below bladder at all times
Ask your doctor each day if you still really need it to minimize risk of infection

Before insertion
Let them know that it shouldn’t be painful but you might feel some pressure or discomfort

Keep the site dry
If you notice it is becoming painful, has discharge, or dressing comes off make sure to let me know
Make sure it is changed every 7 days unless you need it sooner
