Q

How does ECHO doppler work?

A
  • Blue shows blood moving away and red shows blood moving towards the probe whilst turbulent blood flow causes a mixture of both (valve function)

Q

How does nuclear imaging work?

A
  • Radionucleotide traces and use gamma rays and a gamma detector
  • Looks for big abnormalities between rest and exercise.
  • Tracer taken up by myocardium and image is taken to see how much of the myocardium has the tracer infused into. Less blood supply during stress/exercise and so less of the tracer to be taken up.

Q

What is MRI used for?

A
  • Detailed assessment of left and right systolic function
  • Indications include assessment of structure and function, perfusion/stress, assessment of great vessels and tissue characterisation (infiltrative cardiomyopathies and previous infarction)
