CP Flashcards
cells can undergo regenration, what are the three main categories? give examples
labile - cells continue to proliferate throughout life.
eg skin, gut, mucosa, bone marrow
stable - cells turn over at low rate, can undergo rapid replication if needed
- eg kidney, liver, endocrine glands, bine
permanent - either incapable of mitotic division or organised proliferation
- eg cardiac muscle, neurones, straited/skeletal muscle
which three tissue types can regenerate all constituents?
liver
bone
bone marrow
define regeneration
the replacement of injured cells with the same type of cells
define resolution
the complete return to normal structure and function after injury
define restitution
return to normality due to a combination of regeneration and resolution
define repair
the replacement of lost tissue by fibrous scar tissue
which type of cell is does not undergo stable regeneration?
a) hepatocytes
b) renal cells
c) skeletal muscle cell
d) bone
e) endocrine glands
c) skeletal muscle cell - a form of permanent cell
describe the four-step process of angiogenesis
- Enzymatic degradation of basement membrane f parent vessels
- Migration of endothelial cells towards stimulus
- Proliferation of endothelial cells into cords
- Maturation and lumen formation (initially leaky)
