Course 4 Anatomy for real Flashcards
Blood supply thyroid
Inferior thyroid artery (subclavian)
Superior thyroid artery (carotid)
Anatomical location thyroid
Deep to sternohyoid and sternothyroid muscles
Anterolateral to larynx & trachea
C5-T1 vertebral levels
Isthmus anterior to 2nd/3rd tracheal rings
Anatomical location parathyroid
Typically superior by border of cricoid cartilage
Pancreas Blood
Splenic artery: neck, body, tail
Pancreatico-duodenal artery/ superior mesenteric artery: head
Venous drainage:
splenic vein
superior mesenteric vein
Anatomical location pancreas
Secondarily retroperitoneal
Head at C of duodenum
Tail at splenic hilum
Head: anterior to right renal vessels, IVC, left renal vein
Neck & Body: anterior to aorta
Innervation Pancreas
Sympathetic: Greater and lesser splanchnic nerves (T5-T9) via the
Celiac plexus
Superior mesenteric plexus
Parasympathetic: Vagus nerve
Anatomical position adrenals
Retroperitoneal
Superior pole of kidney
Anterior to crura of diaphragm
Surrounded by perirenal fat
Cortex + medulla
Blood supply adrenal glands
Arterial:
- Superior suprarenal aa. (from inferior phrenic a.
- Middle suprarenal a. (aorta)
- Inferior suprarenal (renal a.)
Venous:
suprarenal vein into Renal vein
Innervation adrenals
Sympathetic:
Greater splanchnic nerve T5-T9
Parasympathetic:
Vagus
Left recurrent laryngeal nerve
Branch of vagus nerve
Loops around aortic arch posterior to ligementum arteriosum
Ureter blood supply
Renal
Gonadal
Vesicular
Vaginal
Ureter innervation
Sympathetic: Renal Plexus T11-L2
Parasympathetic: vagus
What are the embrylogical origins of the urinary tract structures?
Metanephric diverticulum: ureter, renal pelvis, calices, collecting ducts
Metanephric blastema: nephron tubules, renal corpuscle, prox/distal convoluted tubules, loop of henle
What happens in polycystic kidney disease on an anatomical level?
Failure of diverticulum and blastema to meet: results in blind ended nephrons
Innervation kidney:
Parasympathetic: vagus nerve
Sympathetic: Least splanchnic nerve (T10-L1)
Afferent innervation follows sympathetic supply, referred to level T11-L1
