What is bronchitis? Signs and symptoms?
Inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes. May be either acute or chronic.
* Chest discomfort
* Cough
* Fatigue
* Mucus that is clear, white, yellow, gray or green, maybe streaked with blood
* Shortness of breath
* Slight fever and chills
Location for bronchitis? Causes?

How to diagnose bronchitis?
- Common cold history
- Cough is most important symptom
- When auscultating there is a wheezing or ronchi sound
- Normal X-ray
- Less WBC if a virus
- Increased WBC if bacterial
Differentiate bronchitis from pulmonary tuberculosis?
TB has fever, cough and night sweating. Bronchitis will have cough and may have slight fever but unlikely to have night sweats.
What are the six types of cough?
- Wind Cold

- Qi Deficiency

Wind Cold Common Cold type cough. Symptoms, Treatment Principle, Herbal Formula
S/S: Constant cough, itchy throat, white clear phlegm, fever, aversion to cold, no sweat, headache, stuffy nose, pale and/or red tongue, white thin coat, superficial and tight pulse, superfical red finger
TX: Release wind, dissipate cold, regulate lungs, stop cough
Formula: Jin Fei Cao San
Main herbs: Xuan Fu Hua (Inula flower, transform cold phlegm), Ma Huang (Warm acrid surface releasing), Qian Hu (Hogfennel, transform phlegm and stop cough)
Wind Heat Common Cold type cough. S/S, TX, Formula, Main herbs?
S/S: Cough, yellow thick phlegm, thirst, throat pain, sweating, headaches, thirst, aversion to wind, tongue red, thin yellow coat, pulse superficial and rapid, finger superficial purple
TX: Release wind, dissipate heat, regulate lung, stop cough
Formula: Sang Ju Yin
Main herbs: Sang Ye (Mulberry leaf), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum), Lian Qiao (Forsythia) all three cool acrid herbs that release exterior wind heat
Phlegm Heat cough. S/S, TX, Formula, Main herbs?
S/S: cough, copious sputum, yellow thick phlegm, hard to cough out, hot sensation, fever, thirst, scanty yellow urine, tongue: greasy coat, pulse: slipper and rapid
TX: Clear Lungs, Clear heat, Transform phlegm, Stop cough
Formula: Qing Jin Hua Tan Tang
Main herbs: Huang Qin (Scutellaria, clear heat dry damp); Zhi Zi (Gardenia, clear heat drain fire); Zhi Mu (Anemorrhena, clear heat in Qi stage); Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum flower); Sang Bai Pi (Mulberry Root bark)

S/S: Cough, white but not sticky phlegm, phlegm in throat, chest oppression, lack of appetite, fatigue, Tongue: red, pale with white greasy coat, Pulse: slippery

S/S: Dry type cough, less or no sputum, hard to expectorate, with blood, dry throat, thirst, fever, five palm heat, Tongue: red with no coat or less coat, Pulse: thready and rapid
