What is a negative correlation?

A

Positive correlation is when one variable increases the other one does as well
Negative correlation is when one variable increases The other decreases

What are the advantages of a correlations?

A
  • Allows research to be conducted without manipulating the IV for ethical reasons
  • Allows us to make predictions to be made, once a correlation is found we can then predict future relationships

What are the disadvantages of correlations?

A
  • We cannot establish cause and effect there may be a hidden third variable causing the relationship to occur.
  • They don’t measure curvilinear relationships they only measure linear relationships
