Correlations Flashcards
1
Q
An experiment
A
Looks for a difference, involves an IV and DV
2
Q
Correlation coefficient
A
Number that represents the strength and direction of the relationship
‘-1’ is a neg, ‘0.00’ neutral/ no correlation, ‘+1’ is positive
3
Q
Example of a positive and negative correlation
A
Personal wealth and house value positively correlated
Wealth and debt negatively correlated
4
Q
Evaluation of correlational analysis
A
+ generally don’t have to manipulate variables
+ can numerically quantify a relationship
+ make predictions
- can’t determine cause and effect
- rel. could be due to an intervening variable
Eg no. of ice-creams sold and violence- I variable of hot weather
5
Q
What is a correlation?
A
Looks for a relationship, no co variables- (strength of relationship/ direction of relationship)
