Q

correlation coefficient

A

A correlation coefficient is used to measure the strength and nature (positive or negative) of the relationship between two co‐variables.
- A perfect positive correlation has a correlation coefficient of +1 and for a perfect negative
correlation it is ‐1.

Q

strengths of correlational techniques

A
  1. Can be used when a laboratory experiment would be unethical as the variables are not manipulated, only correlated.
  2. Measure the strength of a relationship between variables, allowing for further research to be conducted.

Q

limitations of correlational techniques

A
  1. Not possible to establish cause and effect
relationships through conducting a correlation. = other factors affecting results
  2. Can only identify linear relationships and not
    curvilinear.
