correlation Flashcards
1
Q
define correalational techniques
A
- used to measure how strong the relationship is between two (or more) variables.
- positive, negative,no
2
Q
correlation coefficient
A
A correlation coefficient is used to measure the strength and nature (positive or negative) of the relationship between two co‐variables.
- A perfect positive correlation has a correlation coefficient of +1 and for a perfect negative
correlation it is ‐1.
3
Q
strengths of correlational techniques
A
- Can be used when a laboratory experiment would be unethical as the variables are not manipulated, only correlated.
- Measure the strength of a relationship between variables, allowing for further research to be conducted.
4
Q
limitations of correlational techniques
A
- Not possible to establish cause and effect
relationships through conducting a correlation. = other factors affecting results - Can only identify linear relationships and not
curvilinear.
