heart failure
What effect does Coronary heart disease have on the heart?
make the heart work harder to pump blood to the rest of the body.
What are some risk factors for coronary heart disease?
(list three)
smoking
alcohol
high cholesterol
poor diet
obesity
What is a stent?

How does a stent work?
It is pushed into the artery and opened up to push the plaque to the sides and allow red blood cells to pass through
What are some of the positives of a stent treatment? (list 2)
-it lowers the risk of having a heart attack
-the recovery time is short
-it works for a long period of time
What are some negatives of a stent treatment? (list 2)
-there is a risk of infection
-there is a risk of blood clots
-there is a risk of complications during surgery
What are satins?
a medication used to reduce blood cholesterol levels.
How do satins work?
they slows down the rate of fatty material deposit is made.
What is a positive of taking satins?
-they reduce the risk of heart attack
-they reduce the risk of strokes
What is a negative of taking satins?
-they have to be taken daily
-there are side effects of sickness
-there are side effects of abdominal pain
-effects of satins are not instant and take time to kick in
What is a heart transplant?
a heart used to replace a damaged one
