Coronary Artery Disease Flashcards
What is coronary artery disease
Restriction in blood supply to heart tissue to meet demands
When is coronary artery disease symptomatic
> 70% stenosis
What is hypoxia
Lack of blood supply to meet demands
What are the types of hypoxia
Hypoxic - low inspired O2
Anaemia - low Hb to deliver O2
Stagnant - abnormal delivery
Cytotoxic - abnormal at tissue level
What causes coronary artery disease
Coronary artery atheroma
What affects O2 supply in blood
Inspired O2
Pulmonary function
Blood constituent
Blood flow
What can CAD cause
Stable angina
ACS
What are the RF
Age Male Smoking DM Hypercholesterol Hypertension FH
How do you Dx
Coronary angiography
ETT
Other functional - stress ECHO / cardiac MRI
What do you do for typical angina Sx + history of CAD
Treat as stable angina
Non invasive testing if further Dx required - ETT
What do you do for atypical angina
CT angiography
Functional imaging 2nd line
Invasive angiography
What do you do for non-angina chest pain / cannot exclude angina + ECG changes
Investigate for angina / cardiac chest pain
What do you do for non angina chest pain and no ECG change
Explore DDX e.g. non-cardiac
What should you do if angina but no Hx of IHD
Look for exacerbating factor
Anaemia
Cardiomyopathy
What is the Rx of CAD
Lifestyle
Secondary prevention
PCI
CABG
