CORI cycle Flashcards
Does CORI cycle occur under aerobic conditions or anaerobic conditions?
Anaerobic
What does the body use CORI cycle for?
TO turn pyruvate into lactate (in the muscles)
What does lactate dehydrogenase do?
convert pyruvate into lactate
Why does the body do CORI cycle?
it needs a way to regenerate NAD+ so it can keep running glycolysis for ATP while it can’t rune electron transport chain
Electron transport chain only works under aerobic conditions where you can make the water you need with the transferred electrons in order to make ATP
what does the body use the lactate for?
gluconeogenisis ( the liver converts the lactate back into pyruvate, and then converts the pyruvate back in to glucose so it can be used to make more ATP)
