Core Practical's: 18, 10, 11, 4, 9 and 16 Flashcards
Core practical 4: Aim
Investigate the effect of enzyme and substrate concentrations on the initial rates of reactions.
Core practical 4: Change
Concentration of enzyme
Core practical 4: Organisms
Type of enzymes the same
Core practical 4: Reliability
Repeat 4 times, calculate mean, discard anomalies
4: Measure
Vol. of gas produced. In seconds. RATE - divide the volume by the number of seconds
4: Same
Volume of distilled water, volume of enzyme, volume of substrate, concentration of substrate, PH, temperature
4: Procedure
Wear eye protection, lab coats and disposable gloves. All enzymes are potential allergens and skin contact should be avoided. Any spillages onto the skin should be washed off immediately. Asthma sufferers may be particularly sensitive. Hydrogen peroxide is corrosive, therefore avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing - any spillages onto the skin should be washed off immediately. Use the knife with care, cutting on a firm and secure surface.
