Define pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale
A
Pulmonary HTN = increase pulmonary arterial pressure (either primary or secondary)
-Secondary causes usually lung disease
Cor pulmonale = right ventricular enlargement secondary to pulmonary HTN

A
- SOB
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Angina
- Syncope

What are the signs of cor pulmonale?
A
- Increased JVP
- Peripheral oedema
- Loud P2
- Right sided 4th heart sound
- RV heave
- Tricuspid regurgitation
- Pulsatile hepatomegaly

CXR Ventilation-perfusion scan HRCT Pulmonary function tests Lung biopsy FBC - polycythemia

A
Imaging
- ECG: right axis deviation /RV hypertrophy
- Echocardiogram: RV and RA enlargement
- Cardiac catheterisation

A
TREAT UNDERLYING CAUSE
-Right heart failure treatment = oxygen/diuretics
