What is the pathology of asbestosis?
A
- Diffuse interstitial fibrosis
- Usually manifests >10 years after exposure
- Pleural plaques indicate exposure but not pulmonary involvement

What is the concern about asbestosis?
A
> 80% of mesotheliomas due to asbestos exposure
Increased risk of lung cancer
(smoking increases risk further)

What are the investigations for asbestosis?
A
Imaging
-CXr = fibrosis and pleural plaques

What is the treatment for mesothelioma?
A
- Usually only palliative care
- Very poor prognosis
- Family receive compensation
