What are the possible impacts of chronic illness on a person?
Emotional distress, restrictions on normal life, learning how to manage illness, changing risk factors to prevent progression, SE of treatment, loss pf ‘self’
What are the aims of coping interventions?
Reduces distress, manage illness effectively, minimise impact of illness on daily life, prevent progression and minimise risk of further health problems
What is self management training?
Patients gain internal control over illness and increase self efficacy and optimism.
