Name two other processes that encourage COPD
Infection:
COPD patients are prone to respiratory infections this may amplify progression of lung destruction
Inflammation:
Caused by inhalation of exposures trigger an inflammatory response in airways and alveoli
What are some signs and symptoms of COPD?
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Wheezing
- Barrel chest
- Dyspnoea with mild exertion
- Cyanosis
- Pursed-lip breathing
- Accessory muscle use
- Increased expiratory phase of breathing
- Decreased heart and lung sounds due to hyperinflation of lungs
What are some complications of COPD?
- Pulmonary hypertension
