  • Obesity
  • GERD
  • Stress
  • Exercise, hyperventilation
  • Viral respiratory tract infections
  • Maternal smoking
  • Environmental allergens (eg, house dust mites; animal allergens, especially cat and dog; cockroach allergens; and fungi)
  • Environmental pollutants, tobacco smoke
  • Irritants (eg, household sprays, paint fumes)
