Coordination/Proprioception Flashcards
Humans use what three systems?
Visual, Proprioception, and Vestibular
Overrides the tendency to resist. Example : Stretching.
Golgi Tendon Organs (GTO)
Found in the tendon close to muscle tendon junction.
Golgi Tendon Organ
Ability to execute smooth, accurate, controlled movements.
Coordination
Decreased strength, decreased reaction time, decreased flexibility, faulty posture and impaired balance.
Aging and Coordination
Ability to reverse movement between opposing muscle groups.
Alternation or reciprocal movements
Movement control achieved by muscle groups acting together.
Movement composition
Ability to judge distance and speed.
Movement accuracy
Holding
Limb Fixation
Ability to maintain balance in response to alterations in COG and/or BOS.
Equilibrium
Non-equilibrium Tests Examples
Finger to nose test, finger opposition, pronation/supination, hand/foot tapping, pointing and past pointing, alternate heel to knee and heel to toe, toe to examiner’s finger, heel on shin, and fixation/position holding.
Equilibrium Tests Examples
Standing in normal comfortable position, standing on one foot, Romberg test, and tandem walking.
A series of gradual progressive exercises designed to increase coordination.
Frenkel’s Exercises
