Conversion Strategy Flashcards
List each conversion strategy aspect/component?
- Conversion style
- conversion location
- conversion modules
Which will take more time to implement, simultaneous or phased?
phased
which module takes more time to implement?
Module by module
What is the conversion style? And what are the two called(+ definition)?
How do you want to go about the new implementation.
Direct (direct switch), not possible to use the old system (more risk) (cost less) (less time, everyone will be using this system quickly)
Parallel (switch slowly over time), having both systems running (less risk) (cost more) (more time, it will take more time for people to switch over)
What is the conversion location? And what are the three called(+ definition)?
Define location - defining which extent eg. the new system will be trialled in x office not the whole company.
Simultaneous - will be used everywhere, no testing, full roll out. (more risky compared to phased).
Phased - only roll out for certain departments to see how it goes. (cost high for both phased and simultaneous)
Pilot - additional layer, test run of new system.
What is the conversion modules, what are the two called(+ definition)?
Modules can be converted in different ways:
Whole system - converts everything at once (less time) (riskier)
Module by module / modular: separate modules one at a time
What is Risk vs Cost in relation to the conversions? And time?
This needs context but usually is a defining feature, ie. does our company have enough funds to invest in which conversion style, location and module (e.g. they might not have the funds to keep the old system running along with the new system). Also, does the management want the company to immediately start using the new system (possibly out of urgency) or are they okay with slowly transitioning to the newer system.
