Controllable Injury Factors Flashcards
Name 4 common training errors
- Overtraining and overreaching;
- Not following gradual loading;
- Repeating the same activity even when fatigued
- Not preparing for specific needs of activity
What contralateral ham:quad imbalance leads to injury risk?
> 10%
What is the main cause for reduced performance?
Fatigue
What is fatigue characterised by?
- Reduction in power output
- Decline in performance
What are the 3 potential sites of failure?
- CNS
- CNS-muscle transmission
- Individual muscle fibres
How does lactate cause fatigue?
- Reduces calcium - troponin binding
- Affects enzyme function
How does CNS fatigue decrease performance?
Inhibiting nerve cell excitation to stop contraction
How does repeated SSC reduce performance?
- Decreased elastic energy storage
- Caused by increased transition time from stretch-> shorten
What causes decreased leg stiffness?
RF & BF fatiguing sooner that lateralis, tib ant. and gastroc.
Why is there longer contact times after a marathon?
- Increased maximal knee flexion
- Decreased tolerance to stretch loads
Even though race walkers decreased in pace post 30k, what happens to their cadence, and why?
Does not decrease as firing patterns can be trained to stay the same, but muscle output is decreased
What is overreaching?
Poor work:rest ratio
What is overtraining?
Prolonged maladaptation to high training load
