16
Q

What is the purpose of Differential ailerons?

A

Extend travel of up-going aileron, more parasite drag is produced. The additional drag on the downgoing wing evens up the drag and eliminates yaw

17
Q

How do Frise ailerons work?

A

When aileron is deflected downwards, wedge tucks up into wing.
When aileron is defelcted upwards, wedge protudes and generates parasite drag.
Reduces the amount of rudder deflection

18
Q

What is a horn balance used for?

A
  • Protudes in front of control surface hinge, so that when the usrafce moves to one side; th horn is displaced into the airflow on the opposite side.
  • Assists to deflect surface
19
Q

What is the mass balance used for?

A
  • Controls unstable oscillations and flutter
  • Weight is added to surface (Uusally aileron)
  • brings the Cog closer to hinge
20
Q

What are spoliers used for?

A
  • Delioberately spoil lift
  • Disrupt smooth airflow
  • Can also enhance roll
