Control Flashcards
Lift and weight produce a nose up or down moment?
Down
Thrust and drag produce a nose up or down moment?
Up
The tailplane must supply the correcting moment to achieve….
Equilibrium
If a download is required of the tailplane; the elevator must be deflected….
upwards
What is a trim tab used for?
Relieve pilot of need to maintain force on control cables
Tab down
Wing down
-The wing will move in the same direction as the tab is bent
Rudder tab:
-Tab left
Tail left
What does a link balance tab do?
Lightens up the control feel
Link balance tabs work by
The elevator moves up; tab moves down
The elevator moves down; tab moves up
Antibalance tabs work by
If the elevator moves up; the tab moves up
What does a spring tab do?
The bellcrank is spring-loaded and when the force applied exceeds the limit; trim tab will assist
What does anti balance do?
makes controls harder to move
What do aileron spades do?
Reduce effort to defelct ailerons
-Deflects down when aileron is defelcted up
When ailerons are operated; the aileron which moves downneffectively increases the ……. of that wing
Lift Coefficent
What does asymetric drag cause?
Adverse Yaw
What is the purpose of Differential ailerons?
Extend travel of up-going aileron, more parasite drag is produced. The additional drag on the downgoing wing evens up the drag and eliminates yaw
How do Frise ailerons work?
When aileron is deflected downwards, wedge tucks up into wing.
When aileron is defelcted upwards, wedge protudes and generates parasite drag.
Reduces the amount of rudder deflection
What is a horn balance used for?
- Protudes in front of control surface hinge, so that when the usrafce moves to one side; th horn is displaced into the airflow on the opposite side.
- Assists to deflect surface
What is the mass balance used for?
- Controls unstable oscillations and flutter
- Weight is added to surface (Uusally aileron)
- brings the Cog closer to hinge
What are spoliers used for?
- Delioberately spoil lift
- Disrupt smooth airflow
- Can also enhance roll
