What concentration do you use of non-ionic iodinated contrast for a myelogram?
200-280 mg/ml
- too much is too thick and won’t flow
- too little doesn’t make nice columns
What type of contrast do you use for myelogram?
NON-IONIC iodinated
Ionic will cause edema and death
What is the dose of contrast for a myelogram?
0.2 - 0.4 ml/kg - to affect
Where to give a myelogram?
L4-L5 Big dogs - their cord terminates earlier
L5-L6 Little dogs
What are the top and bottom contrast line called?
Dorsal and ventral contrast column
Right and left contrast column
What is the disadvantage of cervical myelogram?
If you meet an obstruction the contrast will back flow into the brain.. this will reduce your ability to evaluate the structure.
With a lumbar myleogram you can push contrast around the lesion.
What to do with seizing dog from contrast?
Just watch it… diazepam
What is a side effect of horse myelogram?
Transient blindness
