Combined contraceptives missed doses counselling

A

Take as soon as remembered (even if 2 pills together)
missed pill is one that is >24hrs late:
1 missed - take one as soon as remembered and continue
2 or more missed- especially in 1st 7 days of cycle - use extra protection and restart (if at end of cycle, omit 7 days free period and start new cycle)

MHRA alert for IUC (intra-uterine contraceptive devices)

A

Uterine perforation, refer if:
severe pelvic pain after insertion (worse than cramps)
sudden chnage in period
pain or increased bleeding for few weeks after insertion
pain during intercourse
unable to feel the thread

SWITCH TO: depot injection, barrier method, intrauterine device, sterilisation and continue for 4 weeks after stopping treatment with drugs as above.
