What are the SEs of the COCP?
Headache, nausea, breast tenderness, irregular bleeding.
Persist for 3-6m, should settle
What is the COCP protective against?
Endometrial, ovarian and bowel cancer
What are the contraindications to the COCP?
Migraines, VTE, HTN, smoke >15d and older than 35y, pregnancy, BMI >40, current breast or endometrial cancer, liver disease, DM with vascular complications
What is the duration of the implant? Which hormone does it contain?
3 years.
Contains Etonorgestrel
What SEs should you discuss with the progestogen emergency contraception
Irregular bleeding, delayed menstruation, breast tenderness, dizzy, diarrhoea, N/V (must repeat dose if within 2h
Which EC cannot be used more than once in cycle?
Ulipristal
What is the Mx of smear results that show borderline changes?
Repeat smear in 6m. Reassure women - cells slightly changes but will probably go back to normal on their own.
What steps are involved in ToP?
- counsel patient + discuss which method to use
- Give prophylactic Abx - metronidazole & doxycycline on day of ToP + continue doxy for 7d
- Perform medical/surgical procedure
- If Rh -ve mother give Anti-D, pain control
- Future contraception
