Content Analysis Flashcards
What is Content Analysis?
The systematic description of the content of naturally occurring communication.
When should Content Analysis be used?
When you want to find naturally occurring. communication (written texts, audio texts, & visual texts)
What is an example of a hypothesis this design could be used to test?
Examining how content analysis results to other variables outside the text.
What is Unitizing?
Deciding what to observe and how observations will be recorded. (what counts as data in your study).
What are random sampling techniques?
- Random
- Systematic
- Stratified
When developing a coding scheme what are the four requirements of good categories for good coding?
- Exhaustive
- Mutually Exclusive
- Independent
- Equivalent unit of analysis
What is intercoder reliability?
Are the coders applying the codes consistently with one another?
- between coder
What is intracoder reliability?
Is the coder applying the categories consistently over time?
- within coder
What are nonrandom sampling techniques?
- Convenience
- Cluster
- Snowball
- Varying Probability
- Relevance
- Census
What is an example of a hypothesis this design could be used to test?
Examining how content analysis results to other variables outside the text.
In content analysis, when can random sampling be used?
when you have:
an enumerated list &
equally informative cases
