Slums of hope
Slum areas which are comparatively more well off than others, there’s good community cohesion and schemes such as ASH
Slums of despair
The worst quality of slum, there’s poor community cohesion, it is in decline
Rural urban fringe
The area of land that marks the boundary between urban and rural areas
Inner city
The area of the city outside the CBD which is generally in a grid like structure
Yuppies
Young upwardly mobile professionals
Ribbon development
Th building of houses on a main road, especially one leading into to out of a town/village
Social welfare
A system which provides assistance to families
Rural turnaround
When more people began to migrate to rural areas and their net migration rates became positive
Suburbanised villages
A village which has few of little facilities and one in which the inhabitants travel to larger urban areas to shop etc
Property led regeneration scheme
E.g. London dock lands (urban development corporations)
City Challenge Partnership

E.g. Greenwich millennium village
Natural increase
An increase in population brought about by births

Factors which would make people emigrate from an area
Pull factors
Factors which would make people migrate to an area
