What causes prejudice and discrimination?

A
  1. Fear of something unfamiliar = people outside of their circle can feel threatening
  2. Learnt from an early age = growing up where discrimination/prejudice is normalised
  3. Result of an experience = a negative experience with someone of a different race/religion and may associate that with everyone in that group
  4. Result of ignorance = a person lacks understanding of other cultures
  5. Need for a scapegoat = eg being unemployed may lead to blaming new citizens (of different race/ethnic/religious groups)
