Contact forces Flashcards
What are contact forces?
Forces between objects that are touching each other.
Friction
The force which opposes motion is called friction.
In other terms friction acts the opposite direction of movement, the force friction depends on the type of surface, in order to get an object to move a force greater then the fictional force needs to be applied in order to overcome friction, Advantages of friction, friction however prevents tires and cars from skidding and us from slipping.
Normal force
The normal force acts perpendicularly to the surface that it is resting on it is the same as pairs of forces except the weight of an object is reverted back to itself, from the ground
Compression
Compression force is something that acts to squash and deform an object, if you squash dough you are exerting a pressure force onto it the dough then changes shape it deforms another examples is crushing a can
