What was your process when choosing a base system for a security cabin?
Concrete was quicker then steel in terms of manufacturing.
Steel would still need pad foundations and in that time the concrete pad would be set.
Less maintenance work required, no need to recoat the concrete.
Concrete was more durable for this project.
What are the pros and cons of using a steel base versus a concrete base in construction?
Pros
Steel base is allot faster
More durable
A sustainable material
Cons:
Steel is susceptible to corrosion and required PPM
Steel can be allot more expensive
Pros
Concrete is durable and has excellent compressive strength
Fire resistant material
Requires low maintenance
Good sound insulating material.
Cons
Concrete takes longer construction time
Limited design flexibitly
Big amount of carbon energy so non sustainable.
What attributes make steel a strong candidate as a base material?
High strength
Durability
Structural integrity
Design flexibility.
Fire resistance – does no contribute to spread of fires.
When and why would you opt for concrete as a base material?
Looking at the high compressive strengths I would recommend when thinking of items such as.
Strength
Durability
Thermal mass
Maintenance.

Waste reduction
Water conservation
Regulatory compliance – IE Sustainability
Social, economical, and environmental considerations.
How do you manage deleterious materials during the construction process?
Identify the issue
Develop a plan – if it needs to be removed or managed.
Consider adequate waste disposal.
What precautions do you take to ensure the health and safety of personnel involved in the project?

Review contractors Construction Phase Health& Safety Plan.
How do your choices in materials ensure compliance to regulations and safety codes?
I ensure that I do not specify Lead based paints for example.
If I suspect a deleterious material like asbestos or lead I will have it tested.
