What was the Constitutional Convention?

A

1787, appointed delegates from all states except Rhode Island met in the same room where the Declaration of Independence had been signed. Their job was to frame a Constitution for a federal republic that would last.

Roger Sherman’s Great Compromise

A

Bicameral legislature to satisfy needs of both large and small states:

  1. Senate with equal representation (2 from each state)
  2. House of Representatives with representation based on population.
