 New Labour1997-2001had devoted itself to devolution, advancement of individual freedom (e.g. Freedom Information Act), but the growth of terrorism prompted a precedence to order, security and safety.
 After 2010 there was a growing interest in society and community, reviving Burke’s theory of little platoons – David Cameron tried to foster a ‘bigger society and a smaller state’.
 The diminishing appeal of European supranational authority with Brexit showed a yearning among voters for a greater sense of national identity which was central to British conservatism for almost two centuries.

 Similar wishes seen in US and Europe to promote cosmopolitan individualism with change that is more attuned to history, tradition and nationhood.
 Conservatism and conservatives is not indivisible (e.g.most conservatives backed EU).
 Conservatism in the UK also not confined to Conservative Party only (e.g.BlueLabour links left wing themes of equality and social justice to conservative themes of family,
faith and flag).
 Trump in the US echoed traditional conservative critique of liberalism–wishes to protect US economy by curbing free markets and prioritising safety and security over individual
liberty.
 Desire to change in a certain way–one that is respectful, not contemptuous of tradition
and continual identity – will always be present and shows no sign of decaying.
