 Western European nations felt effects of fascism much more acutely which had a huge
effect on psychology of continental conservatives – Germany, France and Italy.
 Numerous overlaps with British conservatism; Judaeo-Christian morality as a force for
binding society; hierarchy and authority; social conservatives emphasis on marriage and family life; scepticism towards socially liberal causes e.g. abortion and sexual equality; scepticism towards free market economies; acceptance of enlarged state, public
spending, welfare and Keynesian capitalism.
 However,they had a different attitude towards the nation-state;wary of nationalism and patriotism. Amenable to supra-nationalism which was later embodied by the EEC and EU.
 British conservatives suspected the aim of Christian democracy conservatism was to eliminate the ‘nation’ and make the ‘region’ the main focus of communal identity – ‘no- nation conservatism’.
