Conservation Of Mass Flashcards
1
Q
What is the law of conservation of mass
A
The law of conservation of mass states that no atoms are created or destroyed during a chemical reaction. So no mass is lost or gained - mass is conserved
2
Q
If 44.4g of iron wool burns, producing 6.3g of iron oxide. What mass of oxygen did the iron react with and why
A
6.3g - 44.4g = 1.9g because the law of conservation of mass states that matter can neither be created or destroyed, therefore the iron oxide must’ve had the same mass as the iron wool + oxygen
