Prisoners were forced to do exhausting physical work for up to 14 hours a day. The work that they did was very useless and they worked in extreme conditions
What effect did Gulags have on Russia?
Enforced the gap between the classes and made the citizens more unhappy. High death rate
Collectivisation
People in every village were made to unite their farms into one collective farm which would be more efficient to raise money to afford machinery for the industrial revolution.
What effect did Collectivisation have on Russia?
5 million people starved to death. 3 million kulaks were starved to death. Led to famine and outrage from citizens.
Change to a communist government
Brought in a communist regime, where everyone had the same amount of everything so it was fair. Said only one person would rule the country.
What effect did the Change to a Communist Government have on Russia?
Divided rich and poor people who had property and lost it and didn’t get a say. Factory workers got a better life but peasants didn’t.
