How did concentration camps stop resistance?
Opened in March 1933- 8 weeks after Hitler’s appointment
The existence not hidden from media, prisoners released after a first few weeks so they could spread the word
There was poor conditions- in 1938, 10% of Buchenwald’s population died
How many were in protective custody by the end of 1933?
30,000
How did the people’s courts stop resistance?
Made sure that people were always persecuted for resisting the Nazi’s
All police actions carrying out the will of the Fuhrer were declared legal
What did Evans believe about terror?
People of all groups in society were frightened into going along with Nazis
What did Gellately believe about terror?
Nazi Germany was a dictatorship supported by the people. Terror was only used on outsiders

Women’s welfare improved- infant mortality rate
