What is Sjogrens syndrome and what are the types?
Dry eyes and mouth
Primary - Absence of any other CTD
Secondary - Associated with others, usually RA
Who tends to get it?
Middle aged females
What is the pathophysiology?
Lymphocyte infiltration into exocrine glands
What are the main symptoms
ANY CTD ASSOCIATED SYMPTOMS
Lacrimal infiltration and dry eyes
Parotid infiltration and dry mouth
Dyspareunia
Dy skin
Parotitis
What does Sjogrens increase your risk of?
Lymphoma
What is this?
Parotitis
What are the investigations for it?
Eye examination - ?Corneal abrasions
Schirmer test
What are the serological tests?
ANA as in all CTD
RF if secondary
Anti Ro/LA
What is the treatment?
Generally supportive
Artificial tears
sugarfree gum to stimulate salivary glands
Immunosuppression if systemic
