Connective Tissue Flashcards
Locations of connective tissue
In and around organs Beneath the skin Tendons Ligaments Cartilage Bone Fat Blood
What 3 components comprise all connective tissue
Cells
Fibers
Ground substance ( sold semi solid or fluid)
Loose Adipose connective tissue is
Fat
Made of cells called adipocytes, Is a Loose connective tissue
Used for shock absorption, stores energy, isolation, various depositories.
Locations of loose areolar ct
Around nerves Around blood vessels Around muscles Around organs Beneath the skin
Location for Loose adipose connective tissue
Surrounding the kidney , pericardial and abdominopelvic cavities
And subcutaneous layer
Loose Areolar connective tissue
Most common and least complex and specialized ct.
Has collagen and elastic fibers and abundant distribution of blood vessels
Dense regular ct
Unidirectional tensile strength
Densely packed, parallel collagen fibers
Attaches muscle to bone & bone to bone, resists stress applied. In one direction.
Found in tendons and ligaments
Dense irregular ct
Multidirectional strength
collagen fibers randomly arranged & clumped together.
Found in the dermis of the skin.
Periosteum covering the bone .
perichondrium covering cartilage. Organ capsules.
Name 3 fiber types found in connective tissue?
Collagen fibers
Elastic fibers
Reticular fibers
What are Collagen fibers?
- Found in ct
- long fibers
- unbranched extracellular fibers composed of protein collagen
- strong flexible and resistant to stretching.
What are elastic fibers?
- Contain the protein elastin
- thinner than collagen
- stretch branch and rejoin.
- wavy
What are reticular fibers?
- thinner than collagen fibers
- protein submits are coated with glycoprotein( protein with carbohydrate attached)
- branching interwoven framework
- tough but flexible
Hyaline cartilage
Most common
Semi solid
Found in fetal skeleton joints
Found on ala of the nose and larynx
Where do you find hyaline cartilage
Ala wings of the nose,
Fetal skeleton, joints, larynx
Chondrocytes
Mature cartilage cells are in small spaces called Lacune
