Connective Tissue Flashcards
Connective tissue function
Supports and joins other tissues in the body of mammals
Areolar tissue
-most common tissue in body
-occurs beneath skin epidermis and between other tissues /organs
-stores fat which insulates the body
-suppors /protects organs and muscles
White fibrous tissue
-Found within Tendons and dics between vertebrae
-acts as a shock absorber between vertebrae
-prevents dislocation of joints
Yellow elastic tissue
-found in Ligaments and within the pinna
-gives shape to ear
-holds bones in position
Cartilage
-found at the end of bones within tranchea
-keeps tranchea and brochures open at all times
-connects ribs to sternum
-prevents damage between bones in joints
Bone tissue
-makes up endoskeleton in mammals
-gives shape to body
-protects internal organs
-enables movement (muscle attachment)
-bine marrow produces red blood corpuscles ,white blood cells and platelets
Blood tissue
-consists of plasma,RBC,WBC,platelets
RBC-transport o2 and Co2
WBC-produce antibodies and fight infections
Platelets-assist with blood clotting
Plasma - transports dissolved substances around the body (nutrients, o2,co2,hormones etc
