Connective Tissue Flashcards
connective tissue
bone
cartilage
ligaments
tendons
fat pads
pascia
discs
bursa
what is fascia
-lighter connective tissue arranged in a sheath
-covers entire body
-surrounds groups of muscles, individual muscle
- allow movement with fluid found between layers
superficial fascia
-surrounds and protects structures
-prevent spread of infection or malignant disease
deep fascia
-fascia deep to superficial
-well developed
-separate muscles in leg into compartments
deep fascia compartments
-necessitate nerve innervation and circulation
perimysium
thin fascia that surrounds individual muscle fibers
muscle
-specialized tissue for contraction or shortening
muscle structure
-consists of long cells
-myofilaments of actin and myosin
functional units of muscle
myofilaments of anti and myosin
types of muscle
-skeletal
-cardiac
-smooth
skeletal muscle
-individual cells are muscle fibers
-must have a nerve impulse to activate
cardiac muscle
-muscle of heart and bases of great vessels
-muscle cells branch at intercalated discs and are closely untied, wide spread contraction
-no nerve impulse needed for contraction
smooth muscle
-muscle tissue in thin sheets surrounding hollow viscera
-ex: blood vessels, walls of digestive tract
-nerve impulse not required for contract
Nervous System and Tissue
-electrical conduction system of the body
-tissue is specialized conduction of signal
central nervous system
brain and spinal cord
