what are the features of allergic conjuctivitis

A
  1. Bilateral symptoms conjunctival erythema, conjunctival swelling (chemosis)
  2. itch is prominent
  3. eyelids may also be swollen
  4. May be a history of atopy
  5. May be seasonal (due to pollen) or perennial (due to dust mite, washing powder or other allergens)

first-line: topical or systemic antihistamines

second-line: topical mast-cell stabilisers, e.g. Sodium cromoglicate and nedocromil

describe management of infective conjuctivitis

A

infective conjunctivitis - self limiting condition settles without treatment 1-2 weeks

topical abx chloramphenicol

topical fusidic acid alternative snd should be used for pregnant women (x2 daily)
