Congenital Heart Disease Flashcards
What are the 5 types of ASD?
ostium primum
ostium secondum
sinus venosus
coronary sinus
common atrium
Where is the ostium primum ASD located?
inferior portion of the IAS
Where is the ostium secondum ASD located?
mid-portion of the IAS
Where is the sinus venous ASD located?
superior portion of the IAS near junction of SVC and RA
Where is the coronary sinus ASD located?
inferior septal area close to coronary sinus
What is a common atrium ASD?
near or total absence of IAS
What is the Qp/Qs ratio?
compares pulmonary blood flow to systemic blood flow to determine direction and severity of shunt
When the Qp/Qs ratio is >1…
left to right shunt
When the Qp/Qs ratio is <1…
right to left shunt
Qp/Qs equation:
(.785(RVOTdiameter^2)(RVOTvti)) / (.785(LVOTdiameter^2)(LVOTvti))
What is eisenmenger syndrome?
left to right shunt causes damage to the heart, pressure in RA becomes higher than in LA and shunt reverses right to left
