result of intrauterine positioning
foot has kidney bean shape from forefot adducted and is varus
most common resolves on own or with PT
Syndactyly
=seperation deficit
partial-total
simple-complex
sugery for hands
3rd and 4th digits
Polydactyly
=duplication
preaxial, postaxial, central
surgery for both hands and feet
first and second fingers/toes
macrodactyly
=overgrowth
assoc with vascular abnormalities or neurofibrosis
severe functional and cosmetic problems
reconstruction or amputation
Cleft hand-cleft foot
absence of central ray of hand or foot
no middle finger or toe
reconstructive surgeries
Radial club hand
partial or total absence of radius
surgical reconstruction after 6 months of age
Madelung deformity
undergrowth of distal radial epiphysis
ulnar deviation of wrist
dysplasia of the hip
abnormality in the development of the prox femur, acetabulum, or both
girls affected 6:1
family hx
Clinical manifestations of hip dysplasia
+ ortolani maneuver
in older infant there would be dec ROM in affected hip esp abduction
children with discrepancy in limb length
hip dysplasia interventions
maintain hips in flexed position
traction to stretch muscles-triple diaper
pavlik harness
spica cast
hip surgery
Legg-Calve-Perthes disease
vascular disturbance leads to bone death in hip do to interruption of blood flow
four times more common in males
peak age-6
LCP clinical manifestations
pain-groin, hip, or referred pain to knee
limping
limited hip rotation esp IR and ABD
LCP treatment
goal of care is to keep femoral head in hip joint
