conformity
a change in a person behavior or opinion as a result of a real or imagined pressure from a person or group of people
internalisation
a deep type of conformity where we take on the majority view because we accept it as correct. It is such a far-reaching change that they even take on this view when the majority group isn’t there
Identification
a moderate type of conformity where we act in the same way as a group because we want to be part of the group, but we don’t necessarily agree with the group
Compliance
a temporary type of conformity where we outwardly go along with the majority group but privately disagree with it. The change in behaviour only lasts while the group is monitoring them
Informational social influence (ISI)
An explanation of conformity that says we agree with opinions because we believe its correct, we accept it because we want it to be correct - this may lead to internalisation
Normative Social Influence (NSI)
An explanation of conformity that states we agree with opinions because we want to be accepted, gain social and be liked - this may lead to compliance
