Internalisation
A
- A type of conformity
- When a person genuinely accepts the group norms
- Results on private and public changes in opinion/behaviours
- Change is usually permanent, and has been internalised
- Becomes part of way person thinks
- Change persists even in absence of other group members

A
- Moderate type of conformity
- Identify with group so want to be part of it
- Means public change to be accepted by group even if we don’t privately agree with everything group stands for

- Temporary type of conformity
- Publically go along with majority view
- Privately not changing opinions/behaviour
- Change only lasts as long as group is present

Informational social influence
A
- About who has the better information (you or rest of group)
- Agree with opinion of majority because we believe it is correct
- Accept majority opinion because we want to be correct aswell
Is a cognitive process - Leads to internalisation

A
- Is about norms
- People don’t like to appear foolish or prefer to gain social approval rather than be rejected
- Emotional rather than cognitive process
- Want to gain social approval and be liked
- Leads to compliance
