10 guards 11 prisoners
Volunteer sample (75 responded to a newspaper ad and received $15 a day – 21 students rated most physically and mentally stable, mature and free from anti-social and criminal tendencies chosen).
Basement of Psych Dept. at Stanford Uni was converted to a mock prison. (lab)
Prisoners: Arrested by real police & processed like real prisoners (fingerprinted, stripped) and dehumanising occurred by giving the prisoners smocks and only referring to them as a number and making them wear caps to represent a shaved head.
Guards were given khaki uniforms, sunglasses (to prevent eye contact),
