What is internalisation
We take on the majority view because we accept it as correct
We have a change in our private and public behaviour and it’s permanent
What is identification
We conform to the opinions of the group because there is something about that group that we value and want to be a part of
We will publically change our opinion but May not privately agree
What is compliance
Going along with the group in public but not changing personal opinions
It’s a superficial change
Change in behaviour stops when group pressure stops
What are the explanations for conformity
Normative social influence
Informative social influence
What is informational social influence
We agree with the opinion of the majority because we believe it is correct we accept it because we want to be correct as well

Happens in new or ambiguous situations
What is normative social influence
We ageee with the opinion of the majority because we want to be accepted and gain social approval
